Cheap website solutions

Cheap personal website solutions (from CHF 30/year)

When you’re just starting out, or running a small company, investing thousands of Swiss Francs in a website might not make sense.

One common questions I get is: “How much does a website cost?” For small players, a fully custom solution is often overkill.

If a developer and a designer spend even a single day together on your project, you’re quickly looking at CHF 2–3k for a basic custom site. On top of that, you’ll need to add hosting, a domain, and ongoing maintenance.

Spread over 5 years, that’s easily CHF 1’000 per year.

So, what do you do when your budget isn’t there yet?

You can still get a quality website for as little as CHF 30 per year. Off cost there will be limitations.

Below are some options worth exploring.

Super basic options

Carrd
If you just need something very simple, think of it more like a digital business card than a full website. Probably the cheapest option if you want your own domain.

$19/year + domain name

Linktree
If you’re an influencer, or a mobile-first landing page is enough, Linktree might cover your needs actually. I will only work if you attach a domain to it.

$8/month

“Traditional” website Builders

Wix
Wix used to feel clunky, but they’ve improved a lot. A solid choice for beginners.
€14/month + domain name

Squarespace
Famous for its sleek, modern templates. Personally, I still find their designs a bit nicer than Wix. Probably my go to option if I’d have to choose between the 3 in this category.
CHF 15/month + domain name

WordPress.com
A good starting point if you think you’ll eventually migrate to a custom WordPress. Especially useful if you plan on having hundreds (or thousands) of pages.
CHF 10/month + domain name

All three now offer AI Website Builder features, letting you generate a site by simply writing a prompt

Full AI Option

Lovable
Originally designed for app building, but it can work surprisingly well as a pure AI website builder.

$25/month + domain name

Other options

There are literally thousands of ways to build a site with a bit of developer help.

  • If you’re design-savvy, try Framer or Webflow.
  • If you already have an FTP server but don’t know HTML, even ChatGPT can help you write the code.

Conclusion

In the end, the platform and hosting matter far less than your photography, copywriting, and content structure.

Those are the elements that make your website truly stand out. Start small. Invest in strong visuals and clear content. Your website will already feel professional.
